Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Albion Games!

For now, Albion Games is just the name I am going to use for my gaming-related projects.  I had another first choice, but found out another group of game designers were already using it!

I spent much of my youth (and did a lot of gaming) in Great Britain.  "Albion" is the oldest recorded name for the island of Great Britain.  Albion and Ireland and other nearby smaller islands were known collectively as "the Britannic Isles" until the Roman Empire conquered a large portion (but not all!) of Albion.  The Romans called their new territory "The Britains", they didn't want to admit there were still parts of the Britannic Isles they hadn't conquered.  So the island of Albion became renamed "Britain".

"Albion" is still used as a poetic name for Britain.  The legends say that when it was known as Albion, the island had no humans, but was ruled by a race of giants.  Then (again, according to the legends) a group of human settlers came to the island, led by a fellow named Brutus.  Brutus was said to be the grandson (or great-grandson) of Aeneas, one of the few Trojans to survive the Trojan War, and the hero of Vergil's epic poem Aeneid.  Brutus and his followers fought the giants of Albion, conquering the island which was then renamed "Britain" after Brutus.

Watch this space for what is going on at Albion Games!
